I was officially born in February 1960 when an anthropomorphic giraffe cartoon character was introduced as the Mascot for Toys "R" Us.
My Name, Geoffrey the Giraffe, followed in the 1970s, after a "Name the Mascot" – type contest.
In 1973, I was given a family with the addition of my wife Gigi and my daughter, Baby Gee. In 1979, my son Junior (a.k.a. Geoffrey Junior) was a new addition to the family. These days Gigi and the kids tend to keep a low profile as they have never enjoyed the 'limelight' that I am so used to! Occasionally they do come out to meet and greet their fans in the US.
I have had the pleasure of several makeovers through the years which has kept me looking at my best. It's amazing what a splash of new colour and little bit of re-drawing around the cheeks can do. I would say that I haven't aged a day since I was born...
A few years ago I appeared in a US advert as a real life giraffe. The voice over was done by Jim Hanks (Tom Hanks brother) - its quite funny...
So over the years I have changed a bit, I have had several different 'looks' but I'm still loved by children (and parents) all over the world. It's a hard life being a superstar!
